CHAIRPERSON:

Layne Miller – Geary Pacific Supply, Orange, CA

Layne Miller is the Marketing, Sales, and Operations Vice President for Geary Pacific. Employed by Geary Pacific since 1981 he has helped grow the business from six locations to fifteen. Layne is one of the second-generation owners of Geary Pacific and all of their Managers report directly to him. Layne earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management & Marketing from California State Polytechnic University at Pomona, (Cal Poly), in 1985. Layne and his wife Suzanne will celebrate their 25th anniversary in August 2008 and they have three terrific kids – Meghan 21, Amanda 19, and Ian 15. Layne’s motto is “Don’t confuse efforts with results, just go make it happen.”

Mike Nussdorfer – APCO Inc. DBA Michigan Temperature Supply, Lansing, MI

Mike Nussdorfer is a 3rd generation co-owner of APCO Inc., which was started by his grandfather in 1947. Mike and his brother purchased the company from their father in October 2005. Mike has been the President of the company since 2006. APCO has 8 branches serving the lower peninsula of Michigan and Indianapolis, IN. APCO was the 7th member to join Blue Hawk. Mike is busy raising 4 children (the oldest just received his Driving Permit) and very involved with their upbringing. Mike is on the board for the MRHA Workers Comp, the Exchange Club (A National Service Organization), Okemos Lacrosse Board, and recently came off his Church Board. Mike just celebrated his 17th anniversary with his wife Heidi.

DIRECTORS:

Larry Cohen – The Star Supply Co., New Haven, CT

Larry Cohen is the President of The Star Supply Company, which was founded in 1959 by his father, Seymour Cohen. Larry was named President in 1979. Larry was a trustee in NHAW (currently HARDI) from 1983-1984. He has served on the Board of the Directors for the local council of BSA as well as the Quinnipiac Club, a nonprofit club where local business and educational leaders come to discuss current issues. Larry has been married for 30 years to his wife Peggy, and they have two wonderful children, Michelle and Greg, who just recently started his career at Star Supply.

Sal D'Alessandro - HVAC Supply, Denver, CO

Sal D’Alessandro is President of HVAC Supply Inc. The company was founded in 1986 and purchased by Sal and his former partner, Gary Croy, in 1992. The company has grown from 1 location of 11,000 square feet to 4 locations and over 100,000 square feet. Sal has been in the HVACR industry for close to 40 years with both manufacturing and distribution experience. He has served on advisory boards for manufacturers of both equipment and accessory suppliers. Sal and his wife Jan have been married for 29 years, and have 4 children and 2 grandchildren. They enjoy horses, skiing and scuba diving.

Bob Engel Jr. - Air Purchases of New Hampshire, Inc., Manchester, NH

Bob Engel Jr. is President of Air Purchases of New Hampshire, Inc. He started with the company in 1980 as a territory manager. API of NH is a family owned business, which was started by his father Robert S. Engel Sr. in 1969. It has grown to 7 locations. Bob’s professional affiliations include Trustee for the Northeast region of NHRAW (currently HARDI) for 2 years; Reznor Advisory Counsel for 3 years, for the past 3 years on the Vendor Committee for BLUE HAWK and is actively involved with ACCA. Bob has been married to his wife Colleen for 23 years, and they have 3 wonderful children, Kelly, Bobby III, and Sean 15.

Steven Fair – Century A/C Supply, Houston, TX

Steve Fair has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Sam Houston State University.  Steve is the VP of Purchasing at Century AC Supply.  He began his career at Century starting as a counter sales person in 1990.  Century A/C Supply joined BLUE HAWK in September 2006.  Steve married his wife Kelly in 1988 and they are the proud parents of 3 beautiful daughters.  

James Jackson - Superior Equipment Sales, Inc., Chesapeake, VA

Jim Jackson is President of Superior Equipment Sales.  Jim, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, came to Superior in 2000 after working in the HVAC industry at both the wholesale and manufacturing level for over 40 years.  He has been active in HARDI, ACCA, RSES, and ASHRAE.  He currently serves as Associate Vice-President of Tidewater Builders Association, as a Director for the Home Builders Association of Virginia, and is a past Director of the Peninsula Home Builders Association.  Superior Equipment Sales became a member of BLUE HAWK in July 2006.  Jim has been married to his wife Beverly for 27 years and has one daughter. 

David McIlwaine, HVAC Distributors, Mount Joy, PA

Dave graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1980 with a Business Management degree. In 1986, he earned an MBA from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He founded HVAC Distributors in 1987 with 3 employees. HVAC has grown from a single location company to 6 branches with annual sales of over $40M. He has served HARDI as chairperson of the Management Methods committee, Executive Committee member, Wilder Foundation Chair and as the association President in 2008-2009. Dave co-chairs a Scoutreach fundraising breakfast for the Boy Scouts of America for underprivileged boys who want to participate in scouting, which has raised over $200,000 in five years. Dave and his wife May-Britt have 3 sons, Ross 20, Grant 16, and Troy 16. He enjoys family ski and beach vacations, white water kayaking, exercising and taking his boys dirt biking.

David Shoemaker – Shoemaker Inc., Holland MI

Dave Shoemaker started his career with Shoemaker Inc. in 1979 after graduating from Ferris State College with an Associate’s degree in Accounting.  Dave has been President of Shoemaker Inc. since 1997, when he and his brother, Bob, along with two cousins, Steve and Dan Shoemaker, bought out the family member shares in Shoemaker Inc.  Dave’s primary responsibility is managing the operational and administrative functions of the company.  Shoemaker Inc. was a member of the Independent Wholesalers Alliance (IWA) for five years before joining BLUE HAWK in January 2006.  Dave has been married to his wife Linda for 25 years and they have three daughters and one son.  He is active in his church, volunteering time on various committees and functions as well as serving as the church treasurer for two terms.
